The Daufuskie Island Conservancy, founded in July, 2005 is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to protecting Daufuskie Island’s natural environment. The Conservancy shares knowledge through educational programs; promotes sustainable living; conserves environmentally significant land, waterways and wildlife; and implements programs that encourage earth-friendly practices. It is the purpose of this site to raise awareness of our programs and activities. We are able to continue our work through your generosity and commitment. Your support of our vision is greatly appreciated.

Some say you don’t find Daufuskie Island—it finds you. If you haven’t felt the salty breeze blowing across your face, the sea mist alive in the air, the way the sun filters through the dense forests of Palmettos and Spanish Moss-covered Live Oaks, or the tranquility of the sandy beaches of Daufuskie, you haven’t experienced the way Lowcountry island life used to be.

Steeped in colorful history, Daufuskie tells it’s story without giving away the mystery. Many landmarks from the Gullah culture are still standing. Naturally beautiful, maybe even mystical, Daufuskie is best traveled by golf cart. Feel free to roam the desolate, sandy dirt roads at your own pace and let it show you things you’ve never expected to find. This place can truly transform you!

With such beauty and isolation comes many unconventional and often difficult challenges to keeping it beautiful, clean, and self-sustaining. This is one of the reasons Daufuskie Island Conservancy was created. As with any volunteer-led, non-profit organization, costs sometimes overtake the effort. If you have ever visited Daufuskie Island, have ever wanted to, or feel a calling to contribute to a natural organization, we need your help! We can not do it without those helpful souls that donate funding and serve as volunteers. Please feel free to give a donation or join our cause.
